Exam results - notices

Dear all DT282 students,

If you have failed a module, there are three possible codes listed:
  • RE - "Repeat Exam". You passed CA, failed Exam, overall < 40%. Therefore, you need to repeat the written exam for the module at the next available sitting, which most likely will be the Supplemental exams in August.
  • RAC - "Repeat All Components". You failed CA, failed Exam, overall < 40%. Therefore, you need to repeat the written exam and CA for the module. The written exam can be repeated at the next available sitting, which most likely will be the Supplemental exams in August.
  • RAS - "Contact School Office for instructions". You failed CA, passed Exam, overall < 40%
Regarding the RAC and RAS code where you failed the CA, in most modules it is not possible to resit the CA due to reasons such as the CA being comprised of multiple parts, etc., You should contact the School office and enquire whether a repeat CA is being offered and also contact the lecturer concerned. In cases where the CA cannot be repeated, you will need to resit the written exam and achieve a high enough grade to bring your overall grade to 40% or higher.

For those with a RAS code where no repeat CA is offered, you will need to resit the written exam even though you previously passed it. This will give you an opportunity to receive a higher grade in the written exam to possibly bring your overall grade to 40% or higher.

The Supplemental exams are normally held during August. The exact dates will be published by the DIT Kevin St Exams office online sometime in early summer. If you have to resit a written exam in the Supplemental exams, there is a fee, which is payable to the Exams office. All instructions in how to pay the fee, including registering for the Supplemental exams are again published on the DIT Kevin Street Exams web page. It is your responsibility to register and pay the fee by the deadline date as stated in this web page.

You are entitled to view your exam answer booklet for any of your written exams. However, the window of opportunity to do so is approx 1 week following the publication of the exam results, i.e. today. This means next week (Mon, Feb 12 - Fri, Feb 17) will be the only time allowed to do so. If you wish to view your exam booklet, you must email the School of Computing administrator, Ms. Denise Murray (denise.murray@dit.ie) and ask her to arrange a time for you. Let her know: (i) your course and year (e.g., DT282/2), (ii)  the module(s), (iii) student number. Denise will then arrange a viewing time. There is no fee.

After viewing your exam booklet, if you decide to apply for a remarking/rechecking of marks, you do so via the Exams office. There is a fee of €60 per module. If your mark changes upwards after remark, the €60 will be refunded. Please note that there have been instances where a remark resulted in a lower exam grade so decide carefully if you wish to avail of this option.

I hope this clarifies everything. If you have any further questions, please contact your DT282 Year mentors:
